The Original Chicken Sandwich is the most basic sandwich that Burger King sells. It was part of the Burger King Specialty Sandwiches which were invented in 1978 and introduced a year later by the fast food chain. These specialty sandwiches were designed for adults who longed for something different, and it was also an attempt to set themselves apart from the competition.
The rest of the Burger King Specialty Sandwiches have long gone however, and only the Original Chicken Sandwich remains. It is also known as the Chicken Royale, BK Chicken and Long Chicken.

Today numerous variants of the sandwich are available, and they are tailored made to suit the tastes and preferences of wherever the product is being sold. To maintain public interest in the Original Chicken Sandwich, Burger King usually comes up with limited time variants with different ingredients. In addition to this, the company also uses the same roll from this sandwich in their other products, both in the domestic and international markets.
Through the years Burger King has come up with many other products, but to this day the Original Chicken Sandwich remains one of its most popular and it continues to be part of its promotions, and the company still adds condiments to the sandwich upon request.
